White Belt in Judo

The white belt in judo represents the beginner level and is the very first step in a judoka’s journey. It is awarded to all beginners regardless of age, experience, or physical condition. The white belt marks the start of learning judo techniques, philosophy, and core values.
Symbolizing a clean slate, the white belt reflects a student’s readiness to learn, grow, and master the fundamentals of judo. At this stage, athletes focus on basic physical training, introductory throws, judo techniques, safety rules, and proper behavior on the tatami.
At Dynamo Sports Center, we have developed a certified training methodology that helps clearly track a child’s progress throughout the learning process. For the white belt level, we use a system of patches and stickers that represent specific skill areas, including:
  • general physical conditioning,
  • basic judo throws,
  • holds and fundamental techniques,
  • coordination and body control.
As a child successfully masters each element, they receive a stripe (sticker) added to their belt. This system provides extra motivation, makes progress visible for both children and parents, and helps young athletes confidently move toward the next judo belt level.
The white belt is more than just the beginning — it is the foundation for long-term athletic development and personal growth in judo.
